Hank's Haute Dogs

Umami and Elle were out and about on a run to Jelly's Kakaako and decided to Hank's Haute Dogs.  It's an unassuming place on Coral Street, a half block mauka of Ala Moana Boulevard.  But it's nationally known due to an appearance on Diners Drive-Ins and Dive and a 2009 mention in Bon Appetit for being one of top ten new places for hot dogs.

Elle always get the Chicago ("Genuine Chicago Vienna all-beef hot dog with the famous snap!") with Everything (yellow mustard, raw onion, very green relish, tomato, dill pickle, celery salt and sport hot peppers).   $4.95.  Though he considered going for the Saturday Special: Duck & Foie Gras, Umami opted for the Chicago with everything as well.

It is, of course, fabulous, but be warned, the peppers are really hot.  Better off taking them out, and eating a bit with each of bite of hot dog.

"Awesome French Fries"

The Awesome French Fries (Castle Rock potatoes, twice cooked, crispy) ($2.75) were a little too crispy for Umami's taste.  Maybe it was an extremely crispy batch, but you've been warned.  The Haute Dipping Sauce, Curry Ketchup, was excellent.

Umami's definitely going back.
