And an article on the discovery of the fifth taste, National Public Radio. "Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter ... and Umami"
Umami himself has been frequently called bitter, often salty, sometimes sour . . . and, rarely, sweet. Turns out, he was unique, just not recognized as such.
